Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge Criticizes BJP’s Role in Waqf Land Committee Visit
In Kalaburagi, Karnataka, State Minister Priyank Kharge expressed concerns over the visit of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Waqf, led by Chairman Jagdambika Pal. Kharge labeled it a “BJP-sponsored committee,” questioning the absence of other committee members. He criticized the presence of individuals not connected to the JPC, suggesting political motives behind the visit.
Jagdambika Pal, accompanied by BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, met with farmers’ organizations in Hubballi and announced a fact-finding report for the upcoming winter session of Parliament. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar described the visit as “political drama” due to the approaching elections, asserting that the Karnataka government will not change any land records.
The BJP accused the state of adding Waqf designations to land records in Vijayapura district without proper notification. In response, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah instructed officials to halt and withdraw notices issued to farmers.
