Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge Criticizes Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Over Electoral Bonds
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], September 29: Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has criticized Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman after a Bengaluru court ordered an FIR against her and others for allegedly extorting money through electoral bonds.
Kharge accused Sitharaman of being the ‘architect’ of the bill, which he claims is illegal and unconstitutional. He stated, “The Supreme Court has already told that the electoral bonds are illegal and unconstitutional. The same has been filed here in Karnataka. There are instances where they have forced companies into Quid pro quo and the architect of all this is the finance minister and that’s what the complaint has said.”
The court’s decision followed a petition by Adarsh Iyer of Janadhikar Sangharsh Parishad (JSP). The court ordered the Tilak Nagar police station in Bengaluru to register an FIR for the crime of extortion through electoral bonds against the Minister.
Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi defended Sitharaman, stating that her actions were lawful and according to the law passed by the parliament. He also called for the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah after an FIR was filed against him in connection with the alleged MUDA land allotment ‘scam’.
