Karnataka Minister Krishna Byre Gowda Assures Farmers’ Land Safety Amidst Political Dispute

Karnataka Minister Krishna Byre Gowda Assures Farmers’ Land Safety

In Bengaluru, Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda assured that farmers’ land will not be taken away, addressing confusion despite clarifications from another minister, MB Patil. Notices were issued for 14,201 acres, with only a few acres remaining for spaces like Dargah. Gowda emphasized that the government has no intention of taking farmers’ land, attributing any notices to procedural lapses by revenue officers.

Gowda highlighted that the issue is being politicized due to a dispute between BJP leaders Basangouda Patil Yatnal and BY Vijayendra. This follows BJP MP Surya’s accusations against the Congress government for declaring farmers’ lands as Waqf property in Vijayapura district. Surya claimed that 1,500 acres were taken in Honvada village.

Karnataka Waqf Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan countered these claims, stating that the government is not sending notices to farmers and has not taken any land. He clarified that the Waqf board controls only 23,700 acres out of 1,12,000 acres, with the rest encroached. Khan also mentioned inviting BJP’s Basangouda Patil Yatnal to a cabinet meeting, which he did not attend, and criticized BJP MP Tejasvi Surya’s press conference for lacking information.
