Karnataka Minister KN Rajanna Requests More Deputy Chief Ministers

Karnataka Minister and Congress leader KN Rajanna has asked the party high command to consider appointing additional Deputy Chief Ministers in the state. He mentioned that the request was delayed due to the parliament elections. Rajanna emphasized that many communities supporting the Congress party should be represented with Deputy Chief Ministers, although he clarified he is not seeking the position for himself.

Currently, DK Shivakumar, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, serves as the only Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. The demand for more Deputy Chief Ministers was also raised before the Lok Sabha elections by Congress leaders.

In the last Karnataka Assembly elections, Congress won 135 seats, pushing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power. BJP managed to win 66 seats, while Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) bagged 19 seats. Independents won two seats, and Kalyana Rajya Pragathi Paksha and Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha won one seat each.
