Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], September 11: After Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot sanctioned a prosecution order against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, several leaders from Karnataka Congress expressed their interest in the Chief Minister post.

Reacting to this, state Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara said that the AICC and PCC will deal with the leaders who expressed their wish to become the Chief Minister. He stated, “The PCC President will look at all these developments. He will talk to those leaders who have expressed something like this. It is up to PCC and AICC to regulate these types of statements.”

Earlier, PCC President and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar ruled out the possibility of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah resigning amid demands for his resignation. He said, “There is a conspiracy to misuse the Governor’s office to destabilize Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka. There is no question of the CM resigning and our entire party and the government is behind him.”

On August 31, the office of the Karnataka Governor told the high court that the sanction granted to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the alleged Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam was done after “application of mind.”

In August, amid the row over the Governor granting permission for prosecution, state ministers and legislators conducted a ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ protest. The Congress accused the Governor of discriminatory behavior, alleging that several other cases are pending before him without decisions. Protestors also sought the prosecution of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy in a mining lease case.

Thaawarchand Gehlot sanctioned prosecution against Siddaramaiah in a case of alleged corruption in the allotment of land to his wife by the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
