Bengaluru, Karnataka, India – On Friday, Karnataka Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) R Ashok called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment scam. He announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would begin an agitation against the Congress government.

R Ashok stated, “We started this agitation against Congress and the CM because of the corrupt Karnataka government. CM Siddaramaiah must resign immediately…We are demanding the resignation of the CM. We will start the agitation against the Congress government. We want a CBI inquiry, only then the truth will come out. We are demanding a fair inquiry, which means CBI.”

Earlier in the day, the Lokayukta Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others in connection with the alleged MUDA land allotment scam. The FIR, filed by the Mysuru Lokayukta, includes various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) such as 351, 420, 340, 09, and 120B. The FIR names CM Siddaramaiah, his wife, brother-in-law, and others as accused.

Snehamayi Krishna, one of the complainants in the MUDA scam, has filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking to transfer the case from the Lokayukta to the CBI. The matter is expected to be heard on September 30.

This development follows a Special Court order in Bengaluru directing the Karnataka Lokayukta to investigate allegations of illegalities in the allotment of 14 sites worth Rs 56 crore to CM Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi, by MUDA. The Mysuru district police of Karnataka Lokayukta are required to conduct the investigation and submit their report within three months.

The Special Court’s order came after the Karnataka High Court vacated its interim stay order on August 19, which had directed the court to defer the decision on the complaints against Siddaramaiah.

CM Siddaramaiah has reiterated that he will not resign over the alleged MUDA land allotment scam. He accused the opposition of demanding his resignation to destabilize his government. “I will not resign. HD Kumaraswamy is a minister; he is on bail after an FIR was lodged against him. He is a minister in the Narendra Modi government. It’s a politics by them to destabilize our government; that is why they are doing it,” Siddaramaiah told reporters.

It is alleged that MUDA illegally allotted 14 sites to CM Siddaramaiah’s wife in a prime location in Mysuru city. On Thursday, the Karnataka government withdrew open consent for the CBI to conduct a probe in the state.
