Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara Discusses Caste Census Report

In Bengaluru, Karnataka’s Home Minister, G Parameshwara, emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding the caste census report. This report, prepared by the Karnataka Backward Classes Commission, was submitted in February. Parameshwara stated that without public discussion, the government might face accusations of concealing the report. He mentioned that the report would be presented to the Cabinet for a thorough discussion of its pros and cons.

Parameshwara highlighted the significant expenditure of Rs 160 crore on the census and stressed the necessity of sharing its contents with the public to justify the spending. He remarked, “Implementation of the census report is a different matter. Shouldn’t that information come out?”

Earlier, on October 4, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the Cabinet would decide on the report’s implementation after discussions. He also planned to consult with the Minister of Backward Classes on the issue.

The opposition BJP criticized the Congress for not releasing the census data. The report was submitted by Jayaprakash Hegde, Chairman of the Commission for Backward Classes. The demand for a nationwide caste census is a significant agenda for Congress and other parties in the INDIA bloc, who seek accurate data on caste group populations.
