Karnataka High Court Boosts Anti-Corruption Movement by Allowing Investigation Against CM Siddaramaiah
The Karnataka High Court has dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s petition against the governor’s sanction to prosecute him in the alleged MUDA scam. This decision has given a significant boost to the anti-corruption movement, according to TJ Abraham, one of the complainants.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot granted the sanction on August 17, based on applications from social activists Pradeep Kumar SP, TJ Abraham, and Snehamayi Krishna. The High Court’s single judge bench, led by Justice Nagaprasanna, ruled that the governor’s order did not suffer from non-application of mind.
Karnataka Minister Ramalinga Reddy stated that the verdict would be challenged in higher courts, expressing faith in the legal system. The BJP state unit welcomed the decision and demanded Siddaramaiah’s resignation, accusing him of illegally acquiring land meant for the poor.
The case involves allegations that the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) illegally allotted 14 sites to Siddaramaiah’s wife. The High Court had previously granted temporary relief to Siddaramaiah, but the recent ruling allows the investigation to proceed.
