Karnataka Government Stops CBI Investigations
Deputy CM DK Shivakumar Explains Why
The Karnataka government has decided to withdraw open consent for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct investigations in the state. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced this decision, stating that it aims to prevent the misuse of CBI’s power.
Shivakumar mentioned that this decision aligns with the stance of opposition parties across the country. He said, “We don’t want the CBI to misuse its power.”
Former Minister and Congress leader TB Jayachandra praised the decision, saying, “It is a good decision. When the state government comes to know that they (the CBI) are misusing the power, it is inevitable.”
Congress MLA Dr. Ranganath also supported the move, stating, “CBI, IT, and ED have become the BJP’s agencies, so I feel it is the right decision.”
Karnataka Law Minister HK Patil described the CBI as “biased” and explained that the decision was made to prevent the CBI from taking the wrong path. He noted that the CBI has left many cases pending and refused to investigate several others. Patil emphasized that the decision is not related to the MUDA case, which is being investigated by Lokayukta as ordered by the Special Court in Bengaluru.
Patil also mentioned that the entire Congress party supports Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He added, “The whole cabinet expresses its solidarity with the CM. The legislature party and high command are with him and encouraged him to fight back.”
On Wednesday, the Special Court in Bengaluru directed Karnataka Lokayukta to investigate allegations against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding the allotment of 14 sites worth Rs 56 crore to his wife Parvathi by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
