Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivkumar Talks About Job Reservations for Kannadigas

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar spoke about the state government’s decision to reserve jobs in the private sector for Kannadigas. The Karnataka state cabinet approved a bill enforcing 50% reservation for administrative posts and 75% for non-administrative posts for Kannadigas in private industries.

Shivkumar assured investors, saying, “No investors need to worry. We want investors to come to Karnataka. There are certain sections of the people who are talented and have come from outside the state. We want them to work in Karnataka.” He added that Bengaluru’s population has grown to 1.4 crores due to outsiders coming to work and emphasized that the government does not want to harm anyone but wants to provide opportunities for local people.

Industry body Nasscom, representing the technology and software sector, expressed concerns about the bill. Nasscom urged the state government to withdraw the bill, stating that it could drive companies away and stifle startups. They highlighted that the tech sector contributes significantly to the state’s GDP and houses a large portion of the country’s digital talent and startups.

Nasscom is seeking an urgent meeting with state authorities to discuss these concerns and prevent the state’s progress from being derailed.
