Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar Responds to Nagamangala Riots, Criticizes BJP
Kalaburagi (Karnataka) [India], September 17: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that his government has taken swift and decisive action regarding the Nagamangala incident. He also criticized the BJP for politicizing the issue.
Speaking to reporters in Kalaburagi, Shivakumar stated, “Our government has taken quick and stern action in the recent riots during Ganesha processions. Our government has done what was needed and the police will do what needs to be done. Let the BJP continue to do its politics as usual.”
A riot occurred on September 11 in Nagamangala, Mandya district, following allegations of stone-pelting during a Ganpati immersion procession. State Home Minister Parameshwara mentioned that the state government would consider the BJP’s fact-finding committee report if it reveals new information.
On Monday, a BJP fact-finding committee led by CN Ashwath Narayan visited the site of the violence along with BJP leaders and officials. Narayan condemned the Congress government, accusing it of failing to maintain law and order. He said, “The Congress government has failed to maintain law and order. It is always engaging in appeasement politics. They are not clear, they are divisive, and they aim to divide society along communal lines for vote bank politics. These kinds of incidents keep happening repeatedly.”
BJP leader Narayana Gowda, a member of the fact-finding committee, added, “This government has failed. Whether it is an intelligence failure or a deliberate act, we don’t know. But we suspect this is being done with Congress’s involvement. Petrol bombs are being prepared, and everything is being coordinated with Congress workers. The Home Minister and police officials are controlling the situation. This is revenge for Congress’s failure in the last MP elections.”
