Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar Launches Online Building Plan Approval and Pothole Repair Initiatives
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], September 2: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced the launch of an online building plan approval process for sites up to 4000 square feet within BBMP limits. Speaking at Vidhana Soudha, he introduced the ‘Nambike Nakshe’ scheme, which allows owners to get a provisional building plan approved by an authorised architect or engineer and then upload it online for final approval by the BBMP. This scheme applies to constructions on sites up to 50×80 feet.
Shivakumar explained that most sites developed by BDA or Karnataka Housing Board are of a maximum dimension of 50×80 feet. Owners can now acquire a provisional certificate and begin construction, with BBMP engineers inspecting the site later. This process aims to reduce the hassle of obtaining sanction plans. Initially launched in two BBMP zones, the scheme is now available across all BBMP limits.
The Deputy CM also addressed the issue of potholes in Bengaluru, stating that 2,795 potholes have been identified and officials have a 15-day deadline to fill them. Additionally, Rs 660 crore will be allocated for repairing main thoroughfares. He praised BBMP officials for their work in preventing flooding in many areas of Bengaluru.
Shivakumar mentioned that no construction is allowed within 50 meters of Raja Kaluves as per NGT regulations. A 30 ft road will be built along 300 km of these areas, with landowners compensated with TDR. The first phase will cover 100 km of roads, with Rs 200 crore allocated for this project. Areas identified include Hebbala, Nagavara, Bellandur, and Bengaluru South. These roads will be open to vehicles other than buses.
An app has been launched to help residents upload pictures of potholes in their areas. Shivakumar also plans to tour the city on a bike, accompanied by the Commissioner, to inspect roads personally.
