Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar Discusses Cauvery Water Release and Responds to BJP Allegations

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said on Friday that he held discussions with legal experts about releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. He mentioned that further discussions with the irrigation department officials would follow.

The Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments have been in a long-standing dispute over sharing the Cauvery River water, which is crucial for both states. On Thursday, the Cauvery Water Control Committee directed Karnataka to release 1,000 million cubic feet of water to Tamil Nadu daily. This led to an emergency meeting at Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s residence.

Regarding the BJP’s criticism of the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, Shivakumar said, “BJP is doing politics. Their allegations are baseless, we will respond to them at an appropriate time. Whatever happened has happened during the BJP rule and we will fight this false propaganda.”

A complaint was filed by social activist Snehamayi Krishna against Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and others for allegedly forging documents to claim compensation from MUDA. The complaint accused Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvathy, and his brother-in-law Malikarjuna Swamy Devaraj of creating fake documents to obtain valuable plots. The BJP has alleged a scam worth over Rs 5000 crores and demanded a CBI investigation.
