Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar Proposes Renaming Ramanagara District to Bengaluru South

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 9: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that a delegation of district leaders has proposed renaming Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South. The proposal aims to boost the future development of Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi, Kanakapura, and Harohalli taluks.

Shivakumar stated, “We all originally belong to Bengaluru district, including Bangalore city, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Kanakapura, Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi. Administratively, it was previously divided into Bangalore city, Bangalore rural and Ramanagara district. It is necessary to rename the district as Bengaluru Dakshina district while keeping Ramanagara as a central administration.”

The delegation, which included district in-charge ministers, MLAs, and leaders, met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha to present the proposal. Shivakumar highlighted that renaming the district would enhance its global recognition and attract industries, thereby increasing property values and promoting development up to Mysore.

Regarding the increase in dengue cases, Shivakumar mentioned that CCTV camera surveillance would be arranged to prevent littering. He noted that people are throwing garbage on the roadside instead of using garbage collection vehicles. Instructions have been given to install CCTV cameras on LED lamp posts and to identify and file cases against those who dump garbage and construction waste. The corporation and the health department are working together to control dengue, and the Chief Minister will hold a separate meeting with the heads of all departments.
