Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar Launches Cauvery Phase 5 Water Project
On Wednesday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar inaugurated the Cauvery Phase 5 Water project, a major initiative aimed at addressing Bengaluru’s water needs. The project promises to supply water to one-third of Bengaluru, benefiting around 5 million people for the next decade.
Project Highlights
The project includes India’s largest water treatment plant with a capacity of 775 MLD and a sophisticated flood control system. Three advanced booster pumping stations at TK Halli, Harohalli, and Tataguni will pump water to an elevation of 450 meters, covering a distance of 110 kilometers to reach Bengaluru.
145,000 metric tonnes of steel and 2.4 crore man-hours were invested in this engineering marvel. Water will be distributed through a steel trunk main pipeline to various reservoirs and areas in Bengaluru, ensuring widespread access.

Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar criticized Opposition parties for blaming the government for rain-induced waterlogging. He emphasized that the government is doing its best to manage the situation and will hold further meetings with officials to address the issue.
