Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar Celebrates Court Victory
Bengaluru, Karnataka – Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed his joy after the Karnataka High Court dismissed a CBI application in a disproportionate assets case against him. He called the verdict a “victory for the people and the government.”
Shivakumar stated, “I had great faith in the judiciary and I feel vindicated today. It is more a victory for the people and the government than a personal one. I would like to thank the government and my legal counsels for all the support.”
The High Court’s decision means that the CBI must either drop the case or appeal to the Supreme Court. Shivakumar emphasized his faith in the judiciary, saying, “The judiciary has given me protection.”
The court dismissed a CBI petition challenging the Congress government’s withdrawal of consent for investigating the case. The case has now been referred to the Lokayukta for further investigation.
Shivakumar accused the BJP of trying to tarnish his reputation and highlighted that his government prioritizes transparency. He noted that the previous BJP government could have investigated the case through Lokayukta but chose to refer it to the CBI instead.
He also mentioned that the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) case against him had been dismissed and that he had submitted all necessary documents to the Lokayukta, which is currently investigating the case.
Shivakumar questioned the CBI’s claim of completing 90% of the investigation without interrogating him and mentioned filing a defamation case against a BJP leader for making false claims.
When asked about BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal’s statement that he would appeal to the Supreme Court, Shivakumar said, “I won’t say no to it if he chooses to do so. But the main question is, What is Yatnal’s interest in my case?”
Shivakumar concluded by saying that he expects conspiracies against him to continue but remains confident and calm.
