Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar Celebrates Kempegowda’s Legacy

Bengaluru, Karnataka – On Thursday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar emphasized the importance of remembering history during the 515th Jayanthi of Kempegowda at Kanteerava Stadium. He quoted Baba Saheb Ambedkar, saying, ‘Those who forget history cannot create history,’ and stressed the significance of Kempegowda’s legacy.

Shivakumar highlighted that Kempegowda, who founded Bengaluru over five centuries ago, has left a lasting impact on the city. He urged everyone to nurture and grow Kempegowda’s legacy, noting that Kempegowda took care of all segments of people during his rule.

To honor Kempegowda, the BBMP has allocated Rs 1 lakh to each taluk for school debates about him. Shivakumar also announced that Kempegowda Jayanthi will be celebrated differently from next year, with the establishment of the Kempegowda Development Authority office on a 5-acre land near Sumanahalli and the development of a 10-acre area near Kempegowda’s birthplace in Bengaluru Rural district.

Due to urgent travel to Delhi, Shivakumar was unable to present the Kempegowda awards but promised to reschedule the ceremony. He also mentioned the Congress government’s commitment to building a new Bengaluru, including the construction of 150 km of flyovers and signal-free corridors to alleviate traffic. The Peripheral Ring Road proposal will be revived and renamed as the Bengaluru Business Corridor.
