Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Visits Landslide-Hit Shirur Village

Uttara Kannada (Karnataka) [India], July 21: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited Shirur village in Uttara Kannada district to assess the situation after a landslide claimed 10 lives and left three people missing. The search and rescue operations are ongoing in the Ankola region of the village.

The Chief Minister interacted with the SDRF and NDRF teams conducting the operations. He praised their efforts, noting the challenges posed by continuous torrential rain, a blocked road, and the nearby Gangavali river. Restoration work is underway on National Highway 66 near Shirur village, where the landslide occurred on July 18.

Four teams are using radar technology to locate the missing persons, while four other teams are operating from the other side of the river. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, stationed in the taluk for several days, briefed the Chief Minister on the situation. The Chief Minister advised officials to seek technical assistance from high-level experts due to the risk of further land collapse.

Other officials present included Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, District In-charge Minister Mankala Vaidya, Former Minister RV Deshpande, MLA Satish Sail, Additional Chief Secretaries LK Ateeq and Shalini Rajneesh, along with senior revenue department officials and staff.
