Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Orders CID Probe into Student R Prabuddha’s Death

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigation into the death of R Prabuddha, a second-year BBA student. Prabuddha was found with her throat and wrist slit at her home in Brindavan Layout, Padmanabhanagar, on May 15.

The decision came after KR Sowmya, Prabuddha’s mother, along with a group of social workers, met with the Chief Minister and requested the case be handed over to the CID. The Chief Minister agreed and directed the transfer of the investigation.

The police have arrested a 14-year-old boy suspected of murdering Prabuddha. Initially, the police thought it was a suicide, but a crucial clue led them to the teenage suspect. The boy, a friend of Prabuddha’s younger brother, allegedly stole Rs 2,000 from her purse on May 13 to replace a friend’s broken spectacles. When Prabuddha discovered the theft, she called him to her house and demanded the money back. Despite his apologies, she threatened to inform his parents, which led to the tragic incident.

According to the police, the boy used a kitchen knife to slit Prabuddha’s wrist. However, Prabuddha’s mother suspects that the boy had an accomplice.
