Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Celebrates 1 Crore Litres of Milk Production by KMF
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 2: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his appreciation towards the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) for achieving a milestone of producing 1 crore litres of milk per day. He called this a significant event in the history of the dairy cooperative.
Siddaramaiah was speaking to the media after offering pooja to cows as part of the celebration. He noted that milk production in Karnataka was 90 lakh litres per day in June last year. The Chief Minister recalled his time as the Minister of the Animal Husbandry Department, when he handed over the dairy to the milk unions, uniting dairies and milk unions.
He mentioned that there are about 16,000 milk societies and 15 milk unions in the state, with some unions formed by multiple districts. There are also 15 mother dairies. With the increase in milk production, 50 ml of milk has been added to the half-litre milk packet.
Siddaramaiah emphasized that the produced milk must be sold and that the quantity of Nandini milk has been increased to support farmers. He addressed false information spread by the opposition, clarifying that the government has not increased the price of milk. He stated that the government provides Rs. 5 crores as a subsidy if milk production increases by 1 crore litres.
The Chief Minister highlighted that farmers receive subsidies of Rs 150 crores per month and Rs 1800 crores per year. He reiterated that the price of milk has not been increased and that even if it were, it would benefit farmers without burdening them. He added that Karnataka offers milk at a lower price compared to neighboring states.
