Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra Criticizes State Government Over Dengue Cases

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 11: Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party President BY Vijayendra criticized the state government on Thursday for not addressing the rising dengue cases. He stated that the government is not ‘bothered’ and that the BJP will raise the issue in the Assembly.

‘This government is not at all bothered. Even the concerned minister is sitting in Bengaluru and not touring the state. The state government has not taken this issue seriously. Day by day dengue cases and deaths are increasing. In my constituency, a nine-month-old baby passed away due to dengue. We will raise this issue in the Assembly also,’ Vijayendra told reporters.

He further criticized Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, accusing him of being interested only in real estate. ‘The present Congress government is least bothered about the development of the state. Development works have come to a standstill. Now, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar is talking about renaming Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South. God knows what is the agenda behind this decision. Entire Karnataka knows that DK Shivakumar is interested only in real estate. I think there is a real estate agenda behind this thinking. It is a political gimmick,’ he said.

Karnataka has witnessed over 7000 dengue cases, prompting Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to instruct officials to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and allocate 10 beds in each hospital ward for dengue cases. Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao stated that they are strictly monitoring the situation and have instructed all departments to continue source reduction efforts. ‘We are monitoring the situation…we have strictly instructed all departments to keep doing source reduction…we have asked Asha workers and volunteers to go house to house…the government is working full time…the main thing is to control the spread of mosquitoes and also to stop deaths from happening,’ the Health Minister said.

The cases of dengue are on the rise with the advancing monsoon rains in Bengaluru, Karnataka, as of July 10.
