Karachi Police Officers Suspended for Failing to Address Kidnapping and Assault of Minors
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Karachi Company police station in Islamabad has been suspended, and the station clerk dismissed, for failing to address a complaint regarding a policeman who kidnapped, unlawfully detained, tortured, and raped two minors.
The children were unlawfully detained at Shams Colony police station and sexually assaulted there. The SHO and station clerk of Shams Colony were also suspended but reinstated within hours. The children’s father reported the incident to the police on September 15 and filed a complaint on September 18 after finding his children at Edhi Home.
The family shared a video of the incident on social media, which drew police attention. DIG Syed Ali Raza conducted an inquiry and found both the policeman and the SHO of Karachi Company guilty. A case was filed against the sub-inspector (SI), who was arrested and brought before Judicial Magistrate West Islamabad Shahzad Khan. The magistrate granted police custody of the SI for four days to facilitate the investigation.
