Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Warns Citizens About Heavy Rain and Strong Winds
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has advised residents to avoid unnecessary movement due to heavy rain and strong winds predicted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The low-pressure area from Rann of Kutch is moving towards Karachi and is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm.
In a post on X, Wahab said, “It’s been raining since last 3 days & in the next few hours, it is expected that there will be heavier rainfall with strong winds. I would urge the residents of Karachi especially bike riders to avoid unnecessary movement. Stay safe everyone & in case of any emergency call 1339.”
The PMD stated that the deep depression over Rann of Kutch, India, has moved west-southwestward and is likely to emerge into the northeast Arabian Sea along the Sindh coast by tomorrow morning. Under its influence, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected till August 31 in various districts including Karachi, Tharparker, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, and others.
Fishermen of Sindh are advised not to venture into the sea till August 31, and those of Balochistan till September 1, due to rough sea conditions with squally winds. The PMD is closely monitoring the system and will provide updates accordingly.
