Karachi Faces Fuel Shortage Amid Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association Strike

Karachi is currently facing a fuel crisis because of a strike by the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA). Petrol stations in Karachi and across Pakistan were closed at 6 AM today, as requested by the PPDA.

Despite the strike, petroleum products are still being supplied from the ports by Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and other oil marketing companies. The Oil Tanker Owners Association has chosen not to participate in the strike. According to Shams Shahwani, President of the Oil Tanker Owners Association, fuel is still being provided to power plants, airports, and railroads.

PSO, the country’s main oil corporation, announced on Thursday that the supply of petroleum products would be ensured nationwide. A PSO spokesperson stated, “Continuous supply of petrol at pumps is being ensured,” and reiterated that PSO is always ready to serve the public.

The All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association continued its nationwide strike on Friday, halting negotiations with the government. Talks between the government and the PPDA have not yet resolved the issue.
