Kapil Sibal Questions S Jaishankar’s Visit to Pakistan for SCO Summit 2024

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal has raised questions about the upcoming visit of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to Pakistan. Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit 2024 in Islamabad. Sibal expressed his thoughts on social media, questioning what India has gained and what Pakistan has lost from this visit, stating, “I don’t have an answer!”

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that Jaishankar will attend the SCO summit scheduled for October 15-16. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned that India received an invitation from Pakistan for the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting. This visit marks the first time in nine years that an Indian External Affairs Minister will visit Pakistan.

Earlier in May 2023, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited India for an SCO meeting in Goa, marking the first visit by a Pakistani Foreign Minister to India in six years. The SCO, established in 2001, includes nine member states, with India and Pakistan being among them. The organization also has observer states and dialogue partners.
