Kapil Parma Wins Bronze for India at Paris Paralympics
Indian judoka Kapil Parma clinched a bronze medal by defeating Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira in the men’s -60kg J1 contest at the Paris Paralympics. Kapil executed the Ippon in just 33 seconds, securing the bronze medal in a flash. This victory marked India’s 25th medal at the ongoing Paralympics.
Kapil, who hails from a small village named Shivor in Madhya Pradesh, reached the bronze medal match after a 0-10 defeat against Iran’s Banitaba Khorram Abadi in the semi-finals. Earlier, he had dominated Venezuela’s Marcos Dennis Blanco with a 10-0 win to enter the final four.
In the women’s category, Kokila lost her preliminary round match in the J2 – 48 category 0-10 against Ukraine’s Yuliia Ivanytska, ending her campaign.
India’s medal tally now stands at 25, with five gold, nine silver, and 11 bronze medals, placing the country in 14th position. This tally has already surpassed India’s previous best of 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago.
In other events, Indian para shooters Sidhartha Babu and Mona Agarwal failed to qualify for the next round in the mixed 50m rifle prone SH1 qualification. Sidhartha finished 22nd with 615.8 points, while Mona finished 30th with 610.5 points. Both struggled with consistency, shooting in the nine-point region, which affected their chances of making the final. Sidhartha’s best performance was 104.6 points in the fourth series, while Mona’s best was 104.5 points in the opening series.
