Kapil Dev Discusses ICC Champions Trophy and India-Pakistan Match
Former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev shared his views on the ICC Champions Trophy venues and the potential India-Pakistan match, highlighting the government’s role in such decisions. He stated, “It’s the government’s responsibility. People like us should not give opinions, our opinions don’t matter. Kapil Dev can’t be bigger than anyone else.”
The ICC recently announced a global Trophy Tour for the Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, hosted by Pakistan. The tour was initially planned to include Pakistan-occupied Jammu-Kashmir (PoJK), but the ICC canceled this after objections from the BCCI. The BCCI, led by Secretary Jay Shah, opposed the PCB’s plan to hold the tour in disputed areas like Skardu, Hunza, and Muzaffarabad.
The ICC revised the tour schedule, excluding PoJK cities. The tour will start in Islamabad, visiting landmarks like Daman-e-Koh, Faisal Mosque, and the Pakistan Monument, with former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar. It will then travel to cities like Karachi, Abbottabad, and Taxila before going international.
The ICC’s statement mentioned a series of engagements during the tour, including a content series “Champion on Tour” that will explore the journey through food, music, and cricket. Anurag Dahiya, ICC Chief Commercial Officer, expressed excitement about the tour, emphasizing the unique experience for fans to see the trophy up close.
