Kanwar Yatra: Muzaffarnagar Police Ask Eateries to Display Owner Names, Owaisi Criticizes Move

In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, the police have requested eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to voluntarily display the names of their owners and employees. This request aims to help devotees, known as Kanwariyas, who abstain from certain foods during the holy month of Shravan.

The police stated that in the past, confusion over shop names led to law and order issues. The intention behind this order is to prevent such problems and respect the faith of the devotees, not to create religious discrimination.

However, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi criticized the move, comparing it to apartheid in South Africa and the ‘Judenboycott’ in Nazi Germany. He expressed his concerns on social media, stating that the order could lead to discrimination against Muslim shop owners.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarnagar, Abhishek Singh, clarified that the measure is to avoid confusion and ensure smooth passage for the Kanwariyas. He emphasized that the display of names is voluntary and aims to prevent future allegations and maintain law and order.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the preparations for the Kanwar Yatra, which starts on July 22, and provided necessary guidelines. The meeting included ministers of water, power, urban development, energy, and the PWD minister.
