Kangana Ranaut Criticizes Himachal Pradesh CM Over Flood Relief Funds

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 6: Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kangana Ranaut has criticized Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu for not distributing central government funds to the people affected by recent floods. She claimed that the displaced people have not received the Rs 7 lakh allotted to them and demanded a special enquiry.

Ranaut stated, “The condition of the state government is visible to everyone. The displaced people haven’t got Rs. 7 lakhs allotted to them from the central government’s fund. The state government has no sentiments for the people of the area. PM Modi will give the funds to Sukhu ji (HP CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu) but he will not give it to the people. A special enquiry should be conducted here.”

Relief and rescue operations are ongoing in the flood-affected Samej village near Rampur in Shimla following the catastrophic cloudbursts on August 1. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 85 roads, including two National Highways, have been closed due to landslides and excessive rain. Additionally, 116 electricity supply schemes and 65 water supply schemes have been disrupted.

Another cloudburst occurred in the Lahaul and Spiti districts, washing away two bridges in the Chicham area. PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh reported that nearly 80 roads are closed, and the PWD has suffered a loss of Rs 300 crore. He mentioned that search and relief operations are ongoing in Kullu and Shimla, with bodies being recovered and 30 people still missing in Mandi.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu has reached out to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister for financial assistance but has not received any help yet. Singh added, “We are trying to do our best to restore the situation to normal. The Chief Minister has spoken to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, but so far, we have not received any financial assistance from the Union government. We hope that we will get help soon.”
