New Delhi, India – A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) distanced itself from Kangana Ranaut’s recent comments on the farm laws, the actor-turned-politician issued a public apology on Wednesday. Kangana, who is the Mandi Lok Sabha MP, had suggested that the three farm laws, which were repealed after prolonged farmer protests, should be reinstated. She stated, “I know this statement could be controversial, but the three farm laws should be brought back. Farmers themselves should demand it.”

Following the BJP’s clarification that her comments were “not authorized,” Kangana retracted her remarks and apologized. She emphasized that she will ensure her views align with the party’s stance in the future. In a self-made video posted on X, she said, “When farmers laws were proposed, a lot of people came out in support of them, but with a lot of sensitivity, our Prime Minister retracted those laws, so it is the responsibility of all the workers of his party to respect his words. I will also have to keep one thing in mind that now I am not an artist but a BJP worker. My opinions will not just be mine but will represent the party’s stand. So if I have hurt anyone’s sentiments with my thoughts, I regret it and take my words back.”

This apology came after BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia clarified on Tuesday that Kangana’s remarks were her personal views and did not represent the BJP’s stance on the farm bills. He stated, “On the social media platforms, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s statement on the farm bills that was withdrawn by central govt, is going viral. I want to make it clear that this statement is a personal statement of her. Kangana Ranaut is not authorized to make such a statement on behalf of the BJP, and it doesn’t depict the BJP’s view on the farm bills. We disapprove of this statement.”

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja criticized Kangana, calling her “habitually controversial” and “mentally unstable.” He remarked, “Some people are accustomed to creating controversy, and the BJP benefits from her statements. She talks about farmers, Punjab, the Emergency, and Rahul Gandhi. There are other MPs who never make such remarks.”

Last month, the BJP had already distanced itself from Kangana’s statements about the farmers’ agitation and asked her to refrain from making such comments in the future.
