Kane Williamson to Miss First Test Against India Due to Injury

New Zealand’s star cricketer, Kane Williamson, will not be playing in the opening Test match against India in Bengaluru. This decision comes as Williamson has not fully recovered from a groin strain he suffered during the recent series against Sri Lanka. The injury occurred in the second Test in Galle, and he has been undergoing rehabilitation at home before traveling to India.

The absence of the 34-year-old is a significant setback for New Zealand in the long-format series against India. In his place, Mark Chapman has been included in the squad for the tour. Following Tim Southee’s resignation as captain after a 2-0 defeat in Sri Lanka, Tom Latham will lead the team in the three-match Test series against India.

New Zealand selector Sam Wells expressed hope that Williamson might be available for the later part of the series. He stated, “The advice we’ve received is that the best course of action is for Kane to rest and rehabilitate now rather than risk aggravating the injury. We’re hopeful that if the rehabilitation goes to plan, Kane will be available for the latter part of the tour.”

Williamson has an impressive record in Test cricket, having played 102 matches and scored 8881 runs with an average of 54.48. He made his Test debut in 2010 against India.
