Kamindu Mendis Stays Calm to Shine in Test Cricket Against England
Sri Lankan cricketer Kamindu Mendis revealed that staying calm is the key to his success in Test cricket. Mendis played an impressive 113-run innings in the first Test against England in Manchester, achieving a batting average of 92.16, the second-highest in Test history for players with over 500 runs.
Before the second Test, Kamindu shared his philosophy, which has helped him perform well on the field. He said, “I do basic things and try to keep calm in the middle. My only goal is to give as much to my team as possible, whether in batting, bowling, or fielding.”
Kamindu made his debut against Australia two years ago as a replacement for Dhananjaya de Silva and scored 61 runs. He had to wait for another opportunity, which came against Bangladesh earlier this year, where he scored a twin hundred.
“I knew the batting lineup was packed, but I tried to do my best with the chance I had. I had to leave the team when Dhananjaya returned, but I don’t see that as a mistake. You have to make various decisions to balance a team,” Kamindu explained.
During his time as a squad player, Kamindu traveled with the team and learned from experienced players, which helped him improve. He is now eager to perform well in the second Test against England at Lord’s, starting on Thursday.
