Dubai [UAE], October 14: Sri Lanka’s talented cricketer Kamindu Mendis has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for September, as announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Mendis showcased his exceptional skills in four Test matches, amassing 451 runs with an impressive average of 90.20. His performance included two centuries and played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s victory at The Oval in England and a series win against New Zealand in Sri Lanka.

Mendis has become the first player to win this award twice in 2024, having previously won it in March. He surpassed strong contenders like his teammate Prabath Jayasuriya and Australia’s Travis Head. Mendis expressed his joy and pride in receiving the award again, acknowledging the hard work that has led to his consistent recognition on the global stage.

During September, Mendis achieved a historic feat by becoming the first men’s player to score fifty in each of his first eight Test matches. He also became the fastest batter in 75 years to reach 1,000 Test runs, matching the legendary Don Bradman’s record of achieving this milestone in just 13 innings. His standout performance was an unbeaten 182 in Sri Lanka’s first-innings total of 602/5 declared against New Zealand, contributing to a significant win. Another notable innings was his 114 in a challenging situation during the first Test of the series.

In his eight Test matches so far, Kamindu Mendis has scored 1,004 runs at an average of 91.27, with five centuries and four fifties in 13 innings. His highest score remains 182*.
