Kamali P and Sugar Shanti Banarse to Compete in 3rd Mahabs Point Break Challenge Finals
Top Indian surfers Kamali P and Sugar Shanti Banarse will compete in the Open Women’s category finals at the 3rd Mahabs Point Break Challenge National Surf Series 2024. The event is being held at the beautiful shores of the Bay of Bengal.
Kamali P will also aim for a double win as she is the favorite in the Groms U-16 Girls category finals. On Day 1, Kamali and Sugar qualified for the finals by winning their semi-finals with scores of 13.17 and 8.16 respectively. Shrishti Selvam and Sandhya Arun also made it to the finals.
In the Groms U-16 Girls category, Kamali will compete against Dhayanthi Sriram, Mahati Srinivasabharathi, and Saanvi Hegde. Upcoming stars Tayin Arun and Kishore Kumar have impressed everyone by advancing to the next rounds in both the Men’s Open Category and the Groms U-16 Boys category.
Defending champion Ramesh Budihal and top-ranked surfers Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D, Harish M, M. Manikandan, Surya P, and Sivaraj Babu have also secured their places in the quarterfinals. In the Groms U-16 Boys semi-finals, Tayin Arun will be joined by Yogesh A, S. Lokesh, and Som Sethi, while Kishore Kumar will compete against P. Harish, Pradeep Pujar, and Prahlad Sriram.
As the competition moves into the final day, anticipation is high among participants and organizers. Head Judge Rory Symes from Australia expressed excitement over the elevated level of surfing skills and the increasing competitiveness of the event. He praised the junior surfers for challenging seasoned competitors and commended the women surfers for their remarkable displays of skill and courage.
