Kamala Harris Responds to Donald Trump’s Remarks on Her Heritage

US Vice President Kamala Harris has responded to former President Donald Trump’s comments about her racial identity, stating that Americans deserve better leadership. Speaking at a Houston fundraiser, Harris criticized Trump’s Project 2025, which she claimed would harm the middle class.

Trump had questioned Harris’ heritage at a gathering of black journalists. He said, “She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn black, and now she wants to be known as black.”

Harris emphasized the importance of moving forward and highlighted the stakes of the upcoming election, where she is the Democratic nominee. She said, “In this moment, we face a choice, between two very different visions for our nation. One focused on the future, the other focused on the past. And we in this room, are fighting for the future.”

Harris also mentioned that her campaign is the underdog in the race, with less than 100 days until the November election. She stressed the importance of hard work and fighting for a better future.

Kamala Harris is of Indian origin, with her mother being Indian and her father Jamaican. She was born in Oakland, California, and attended Howard University, a historically black university in Washington. She is the first female, first Black, and first Asian American vice president. If she wins the upcoming election, she will become the first woman president of the United States.

The White House denounced Trump’s comments as “insulting,” and Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, called Trump “a worse version of an already horrible person.” Emhoff emphasized the importance of the upcoming election and what is at stake.

Last week, President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race and nominated Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. Harris’ takeover has re-energized the Democratic campaign, and she raised more than USD 200 million in her first week as a presidential candidate.
