Kamala Harris Honors Grandparents on Grandparents’ Day

US Vice President Kamala Harris shared a heartfelt message about her grandparents on Grandparents’ Day. She spoke about her grandfather, a retired civil servant who was part of India’s independence movement, and her grandmother, who educated women about birth control. Harris said their dedication to public service continues to inspire her.

As a young girl visiting my grandparents in India, my grandfather took me on his morning walks, where he would discuss the importance of fighting for equality and fighting corruption. He was a retired civil servant who had been part of the movement to win India’s independence. My grandmother traveled across India–bullhorn in hand–to speak with women about accessing birth control. Their commitment to public service and fight for a better future live on in me today. Happy National Grandparents Day to all the grandparents who help shape and inspire the next generation.

Kamala Harris Nominated for Presidency

Kamala Harris was nominated as the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden stepped down from the presidential race due to concerns about his age. If elected, Harris would be the first woman to become the US president. She is the second woman ever nominated for the presidency by a major political party.

Response to Donald Trump’s Comments

In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Harris responded to Donald Trump’s racial comments, where he questioned her racial identity. Trump had previously claimed that Harris, who has Indian heritage, ‘turned Black’ a few years ago. Harris dismissed the comments as part of a ‘same old, tired playbook’ and chose not to elaborate further.
