Kamala Harris Endorsed by President Biden as Democratic Nominee for 2024 Election
Washington, DC [US], July 25: White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre emphasized that no one is more qualified to be the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee than US Vice President Kamala Harris. Jean-Pierre highlighted Harris’s extensive experience, noting her roles as vice president, senator, and attorney general.
Jean-Pierre stated, “The vice president (Kamala Harris) has been vice president for more than four years. I do not see anyone more qualified to step in at this moment. She was a senator. She was an attorney general…”
She added that President Joe Biden is proud of his decision to endorse Harris, citing their accomplishments over the past four years. Harris has visited over 19 countries and met with more than 150 foreign leaders during her tenure.
President Biden will address the nation from the Oval Office on July 24 at 8 pm ET, following his announcement to withdraw from the 2024 election race and endorse Harris. The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5.
After a debate with Republican candidate Donald Trump, Biden faced pressure from Democrats to withdraw. On July 21, he formally announced his decision and endorsed Harris. Harris has since gained significant support within the Democratic Party and is expected to be the official nominee after the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago in August.
The DNC has set rules for the nomination process, with voting likely to begin on August 1. Harris needs to secure the majority of delegates’ support to be officially nominated. The party aims to finalize its presidential and vice-presidential candidates by August 7 to meet ballot access deadlines.
