US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has accepted CNN’s invitation for a second presidential debate against her Republican rival, former President Donald Trump, on October 23. Harris announced her acceptance on social media, urging Trump to join her.
Earlier this month, Harris and Trump debated in a session moderated by ABC News, where Harris reportedly dominated. Harris’ campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, stated, “Vice President Harris is ready for another opportunity to share a stage with Donald Trump. Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate.”
The first presidential debate took place between Trump and President Joe Biden, whose poor performance raised concerns about his age, leading him to withdraw from the campaign and endorse Harris. Harris then received the party’s official nomination.
For the October debate, CNN has proposed a format similar to the June debate, where Trump and Harris would answer moderators’ questions for 90 minutes without a live studio audience. Trump has been inconsistent about participating in a third debate, initially stating there would be no third debate but later suggesting he might be open to it.
Harris’ campaign dismissed Trump’s inconsistent stance, with a senior adviser noting that Trump “changes his position every day.” Harris emphasized the importance of another debate, saying, “I believe we owe it to the voters.” The US presidential elections are scheduled for November 5, making this debate crucial in the final campaign stretch.
