Kamala Harris and Tim Walz Announce Presidential Campaign
US Vice President Kamala Harris has officially announced her presidential campaign with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. At a rally in Philadelphia, Harris emphasized that their campaign is not just a fight against former President Donald Trump but a fight for the future. She highlighted key issues such as affordable housing, child care, and healthcare.
Harris stated, “We fight for a future where we bring down prices that are still too high and lower the cost of living for American families so that they have the chance not just to get by but to get ahead.” Tim Walz, standing behind her, cheered her on.
Harris introduced Walz as the partner her campaign has been seeking, calling Democrats the underdogs in the race but noting that they have momentum. She also mentioned Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who will help secure victory in a key state.
At the rally, Harris proudly announced, “I am now, officially, the Democratic nominee for president of the United States.” She is the first woman of color and the first Asian American to lead a major party ticket, winning 99 percent of the vote according to the Democratic National Committee.
Harris and Walz both believe in lifting people up and running a campaign on behalf of all Americans. Walz thanked Harris for her trust and expressed his excitement for the journey ahead. Harris also updated her profile cover photo on the X platform to feature ‘Harris Walz’ on a blue background.
This announcement follows President Joe Biden’s decision to quit the presidential race amid concerns over his age. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is eyeing a comeback with JD Vance as his running mate.
