Kamala Harris Aims for Presidency with Joe Biden’s Support

US Vice President Kamala Harris announced her intention to earn and win the Democratic Party’s nomination for the upcoming presidential election, following President Joe Biden’s endorsement. Biden decided not to seek re-election, urging Democrats to unite against Republican candidate Donald Trump.

In her statement, Harris expressed gratitude for Biden’s leadership and support, emphasizing her commitment to uniting the party and the nation. She said, “I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have travelled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party-and unite our nation–to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”

Harris also thanked Biden for his “extraordinary leadership” and his decades of service to the country. She called it a “profound honor” to serve as his Vice President and recalled her friendship with Biden’s late son, Beau Biden.

President Biden, in his letter, stated that it was in the best interest of the Democratic Party and the country for him to stand down and focus on his duties as President for the remainder of his term. He praised Harris as an extraordinary partner and highlighted their achievements, including overcoming the pandemic and revitalizing alliances.

Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race follows pressure from Democrats after his performance in a debate with former President Donald Trump.
