Kalpana Saini and Sangeeta Yadav Attend P-20 Meeting in Brazil

Members of Rajya Sabha, Kalpana Saini and Sangeeta Yadav, attended the first P-20 Meeting of Women Parliamentarians in Maceio, Brazil, from June 30 to July 2. The event, themed ‘Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,’ focused on climate change, social inclusion, and global institution reforms.

Key Themes Discussed

Dr. Kalpana Saini spoke at the First Working Session on Promoting Climate Justice and Sustainable Development for Women and Girls. She emphasized the need for climate justice and women-led development to create inclusive climate solutions. She highlighted India’s initiatives like Mission LiFE, Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojna, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojna, and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.

Dr. Saini also mentioned India’s National action plans such as the National Mission for Empowerment of Women, the National Action Plan on Climate Change, and the National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change. She stressed that climate policy must be inclusive and that women’s empowerment is crucial for climate action.

Bilateral Meeting with USA Delegation

The Indian delegation held a bilateral meeting with the USA delegation, including Congresswoman Young Kim and Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove. They discussed India-US bilateral ties and cooperation in women, children, and education. The USA delegation highlighted the ethnic origins of their Vice President and the vibrancy of Indian culture in the USA. The Indian delegation discussed India’s sustainable agenda, including Rain Water Harvesting, Solar Energy, and Sustainable farming.

The Members of Parliament affirmed their commitment to creating a just and equitable society for all women.
