South African cricket star Kagiso Rabada has expressed that winning the ICC World Test Championship would not fully satisfy him, as he values the ICC Cricket World Cup more due to its rich history. Currently, South Africa is in the running to reach their first-ever World Test Championship final, sitting at fifth place in the points tally. To make it to the final, they need to win at least three of their last four matches and rely on other results going their way.
Despite their efforts, South Africa has yet to win a 50-over World Cup at the senior level for both men and women. The men’s team reached the semifinals last year in India but lost to Australia. Rabada, in an interview with SportsBoom, shared his thoughts on the importance of winning a World Cup, stating, “We are edging closer and closer to winning a World Cup and it’s just a matter of making that last, full step.”
Rabada emphasized the significance of experience and learning from past near-victories, saying, “The lesson we take from that final is not to over-complicate things.” He also noted that while winning the World Test Championship would be a proud achievement, the ODI World Cup holds more value for him.
