New Delhi, India – The central government has announced the transfer of Justice Sheel Nagu from the Madhya Pradesh High Court to the position of Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This decision was made official through a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice.

According to the notification, the President of India has appointed Justice Sheel Nagu as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, effective from the date he assumes office. This appointment is made under the powers conferred by Article 217 of the Constitution of India.
Justice Sheel Nagu’s Background
Justice Sheel Nagu has been serving as a Judge at the Madhya Pradesh High Court since May 27, 2011. Before his elevation to the High Court, he practiced in various legal fields including Constitutional, service, labor, and criminal cases. Over his 12-year tenure, he has authored more than 499 reported judgments.
Supreme Court Collegium’s Recommendation
On December 27, 2023, the Supreme Court collegium recommended Justice Sheel Nagu for the position of Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, stating that he is fit and suitable in all respects for the role.
