Justice Rajiv Shakdher Becomes New Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court
Justice Rajiv Shakdher took oath as the new Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Tuesday. The ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan, where the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla, administered the oath.
Justice Shakdher was previously a senior judge at the Delhi High Court. He was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for the position, and his appointment was officially notified. He replaces Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, who has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.
Justice Shakdher’s tenure will be short, as he is set to retire on October 18. Despite this, he has assured the people of Himachal Pradesh that he will strive to deliver justice during his time in office.
Due to ill health, the Chief Minister could not attend the ceremony. However, several dignitaries, including Minister Chandra Kumar, Vikramaditya Singh, Rajesh Dharmani, Congress State President Pratibha Singh, BJP State President Rajiv Bindal, and High Court judges, were present.
Justice Shakdher stated, “This is a very important post. I want to assure the people of Himachal that I will try my best for justice in the state. Although my period is short, it does not mean that we will not do what needs to be done despite the short tenure.”
