On Sunday, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena administered the oath of office to Justice Manmohan, making him the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. The ceremony took place at Raj Niwas and was attended by Chief Minister Atishi and several other dignitaries, including senior officers of the Delhi Government and Judiciary.

Justice Manmohan’s Journey

Justice Manmohan was born on December 17, 1962, in Delhi. He completed his schooling at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, and earned a B.A. (Hons.) in History from Hindu College, University of Delhi. He later obtained his LL.B. from the Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, in 1987 and enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi the same year.

Justice Manmohan has practiced in the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Delhi, focusing on various areas of law including Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Taxation, Arbitration, Trademark, and Service litigation. He was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court on January 18, 2003.

Appointment as Chief Justice

Justice Manmohan was initially appointed as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on March 13, 2008, and became a Permanent Judge on December 17, 2009. He served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court from November 9, 2023, before being elevated to the position of Chief Justice in 2024. The Supreme Court Collegium recommended his appointment on July 11, 2024, and it was officially notified by the Centre on September 21, 2024.
