Hunger Strike Over RG Kar Hospital Incident

In Kolkata, junior doctors from the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front have started an indefinite hunger strike. They are protesting against the authorities, accusing them of obstructing their demonstration. The protest is in response to the rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Allegations Against Authorities

The doctors claim that the state police are using intimidation tactics, blocking essential supplies like water and bio-toilets, and even assaulting a junior doctor on the first day of the protest. Dr. Abid Hasan, a leading figure in the strike, expressed frustration over the lack of response from the government despite multiple emails sent by the doctors.

Demands and Challenges

The junior doctors have ten demands, including a call for the State, CBI, and Supreme Court to address their concerns. They allege negligence and mishandling by the police in the investigation of the RG Kar Hospital incident. Despite facing challenges from the police, the doctors are determined to continue their hunger strike until their demands are met.

Public Support

Dr. Hasan mentioned that public support is growing, with many people joining the protest. The doctors hope this will pressure the government to take action. Aniket Mahato, another junior doctor, emphasized the need for immediate fulfillment of their demands.
