Junior Doctors in Kolkata Continue Hunger Strike for Justice

In Kolkata, West Bengal, junior doctors have been on a hunger strike for over 324 hours. This protest is in response to the tragic incident involving a fellow doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The doctors are demanding justice and action from the government.

Demands for Action

Dr. Janmayee Mandal, a participating doctor, emphasized that the government has been given ample time to respond. He stated, “Our hunger strike will continue if no action is taken. The government must take responsibility and stop neglecting us.”

Nationwide Support

On October 15, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) announced that its Junior Doctors Network would fast in solidarity with the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front. This nationwide fast is supported by the IMA Medical Students Network. The protest aims to ensure safety and security for doctors and healthcare workers.
