Dr. Sayantani, a representative of the West Bengal Junior Doctor’s Front, stated, “We will continue our hunger strike until our demands for justice on humanitarian grounds are met. This is not a fight against the public, but by and for the public.” She highlighted the case of Abhaya, a victim of rape and murder, as a catalyst for their protest.

The protest began after the doctors’ demands for improved safety and security in hospitals were not addressed by the government.
