Judge Dismisses Trump’s Classified Documents Case, Trump Calls for More Dismissals

Judge Dismisses Trump’s Classified Documents Case

On Monday, US District Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump. Judge Cannon stated that the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith violated the Constitution. She questioned if there was a statute authorizing Smith’s appointment and concluded there was none.

Trump was indicted last year for taking classified national defense documents from the White House and resisting their return. Both Trump and his aide, Walt Nauta, pleaded not guilty. Recently, Trump faced three new charges, and Nauta faced two. A third defendant, Carlos de Oliveira, was also charged.

Reacting to the dismissal, Trump called for the dismissal of all other cases against him, labeling them as political attacks. He posted on Truth Social, urging for an end to what he called the weaponization of the justice system.

Assassination Attempt on Trump

In a separate incident, Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Gunshots were fired, and Trump was escorted off the stage by Secret Service agents. Trump was injured, and one attendee was killed, with two others critically injured. The gunman, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by Secret Service agents. The FBI is investigating the incident.
