The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 held a significant meeting in Hyderabad. The meeting was led by JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal and included notable figures such as BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, and Congress MP Imran Masood.

The meeting took place at Hotel Taj Krishna and involved discussions with stakeholders from 42 organizations. Jagdambika Pal mentioned that the JPC is holding consultations across various cities, including Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Delhi, to gather comprehensive input for the bill.

BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi highlighted that the suggestions received during these consultations would help shape the bill. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 aims to introduce reforms such as digitisation, stricter audits, transparency, and legal mechanisms to reclaim illegally occupied waqf properties.

The JPC has to submit its report to the Lok Sabha by the last day of the first week of the next parliament session.
